Has anyone moved up onto using 64 bit systems yet? I didn't realise that my OS was 64 bit today till I tried to install one of my portable Tascam soundcards. In general other than the hardware inconvenience, can it affect software much too?

I've been using the 64-bit version of Win7 Pro for a while now, and although FL Studio is 32-bit, I've had no ill effects from it. It actually runs a bit faster, lol. Pro Tools 8 M-Powered 64-bit edition flies on here.

Right well it's good to know that it can still run 32 bit software. I know as far as drivers go you can run into problems and need the support for the 64 bit OS. I was considering selling my soundcard that I bought several years ago in like 04 for like £270. Being a pretty expensive one, it's gonna be hard to shift once everyone has moved onto 64 bit as im guessing they wont do the drivers for 64 bit anymore.
I might wack it on ebay one day and see what it goes for and if its too little just bump up the price and save it.

I attempted to move to 64bit in 05 and it was a nightmare. No drivers, no software support, no help at all really. I dual booted with XP for a couple of years but when my XP OS died I just went for 32bit Vista. I'm still on the Beta testing groups for M-Audio though so have access to 64bit drivers and 'in development' software although I think there are quite a few now in Public beta (for instance the FW410 is supported)
TBH I think eventually everything will go 64bit. The reason being, the main limitation with 32bit is the ammount of RAM that can be addressed with a maximum of 4gig. 64bit has a theoretical max of 128 terrabytes or something ridiculous! AFAIK there isn't a huge speed benefit to be had, but I may be wrong...
Well, being able to use my full 6 gigs of ram instead of just 3.5 like before is a huge boost to my system's speed, that's for sure.
